On June 12, 2024, a group of dispatchers from the Northern Middlesex Regional Emergency Communications Center (NMRECC) attended the annual Massachusetts Communications Supervisors Association (MCSA) Awards Ceremony, held at Galliford’s Restaurant & Tavern and the Southwick Zoo. Each year, MCSA honors excellence in emergency communications across four categories:

  • Telecommunicator of the Year
  • Supervisor of the Year
  • Leader of the Year
  • Team of the Year

We’re proud to share that several of our own were nominated for their outstanding professionalism and service: Team of the Year Nomination – Rebecca Maccaro, Josh Tirrell, and Patrick Laycox were recognized for their exceptional coordination and response during a serious motor vehicle accident involving multiple agencies. Team of the Year Nomination – Alex Biehl and Kyle Maga were commended for their remarkable teamwork and de-escalation skills in calming a distressed, drug-impaired caller who did not believe responding officers were real.

Team of the Year Nomination – NMRECC Dispatch Supervisor Joey Aberle was nominated as part of the Massachusetts TERT team for their deployment to the Waltham Police Department following the tragic on-duty death of an officer.

Award Winners We’re thrilled to announce that Dispatchers Maccaro, Tirrell, and Laycox received an Honorable Mention for Team of the Year – and the Massachusetts TERT team, including Supervisor Aberle, received the Team of the Year Award!

Congratulations to all of our nominees for representing NMRECC with pride, professionalism, and compassion. Your dedication does not go unnoticed.

To wrap up the day, dispatchers had the chance to relax and enjoy some time at the Southwick Zoo — even getting to feed some of the animals!
